Normal faulting happens when...

Two pieces of the earths crust is being pulled apart

This happens in relation to the bottom (foot wall) block).
There are 4 basic types of faults, one of these four is normal faulting.
The Wasatch Fault is a fault found essentially on the Western border of the Wasatch Mountains in the state of Utah. This particular fault is an example of a normal fault.
